Import Day One Entries from Desktop

With Journey, it is easy to import Day One entries into the application.

Day One Classic

Method 1 (Import from Dropbox)

  1. Your Day One Classic should be synchronised with Dropbox.
  2. In desktop, find the Day One folder in Dropbox > Apps > Day One.
  3. Archive to .zip the Day One folder. It should be named as Day One.zip.
  4. Open Journey, go to Settings > Database > Import.
  5. Drag “Day One.zip” into the drop zone.

Method 2 (Import from Backup File)

  1. Open Day One Classic.
  2. Tap “File” > “Back up journal”.
  3. Go to “Preference” > “Backup” > “Show backups folder in Finder”.
  4. Rename to Day One.zip.
  5. Open Journey, go to Settings > Database > Import.
  6. Drag “Day One.zip” into the drop zone.

Day One 2.0

Method 1

  1. Open Day One 2.0.
  2. Export journal to JSON.
  3. Rename filename to 1 Entries - Export.zip.
  4. Open Journey, go to Settings > Database > Import.
  5. Drag “1 Entries – Export.zip” into the drop zone.

Warning!

Your previous entries may be overwritten. Also, you may have duplicates if you import the same backup multiple times.

Unrecognised Day One Export

If the import is unsuccessful, please check your Day One export file structure against the import file structure provided above. You are not able to attach the zip file if the file structure is incorrect.
